当我们在画画时,我们在画些什么?

把画画局限为对现成客观存在的机械临摹是很危险的,把逼真定义为画画的唯一标准也同样。因为画画的本质,是在探索和交流你对事物的感知与理解。正如Henri Mattise曾说的那样:“画画是去勾勒出意识的形状。(Drawing is putting a line around an idea.)”

这节课语境下的“画画”,既是最广义上的画画,也是最具体的画画,是人们印象里最陌生的一种画画,也是最熟悉的画画。它是名词,也是动词。它是为更完善计划服务的初步草图,是头脑风暴时转瞬即逝的灵感,是煲电话粥时在餐巾纸上留下的无意识涂鸦。只是在这堂课里,草图本身就可以是一件完整独立的作品,看似潦乱又不明所以的涂鸦也往往最具有活力和创造性。

是的,这堂课将涉及到所谓“抽象绘画”。是的,这堂课几乎无关绘画技法,因此你不需要有任何技巧功底。如果你也有一颗开放且好奇的心,这门课邀请你一同深化并挑战对“画画”这一概念的传统理解。我们共同探索主题,把玩纸笔,放飞思想。


Everyone draws. Especially when we were little children, though most of us give up the practice as we grow up. Drawing is so common and taken for granted that we seldom care to deconstruct its meaning and importance.

What is drawing? Is it a noun, or a verb? Is it preliminary sketch of some more-to-be project, scribbling down of elusive thoughts during brainstorming, or doodles unconsciously made on a napkin by someone on a phone call? Is it dependent, or autonomous? Is it lines, points, shapes, tones, texts, or colors? What are the connections and differences between drawing and writing, painting, or tridimensional sculpture? Are there any differences, or they are fundamentally the same?

This course will ask you to dwell on the word “drawing”, critically, and practically. Through critical discussions and hands-on studio work, students will expand their understanding of drawing as not only an art form, but also a way of thinking. There will be no teaching of techniques and little emphasize on skills. In this class, an intuitive and seemingly childish doodle may be valued more than a sophisticated study of life models and geometries. Explore, have fun, and set yourself free.
